The Unseen Family Legacy

From Generation to Generation: How One Family's Dedication to Conservation Has Made a Difference.

The Unseen Family Legacy

Conservation and appreciation of nature runs through the blood of the Busch family, alongside beer. Raised on hunting and fishing, not killing and catching, the Busch's prioritize tradition and family bond over any trophy. Their deep relationship with nature has been instilled in them from generations of outdoorsmen and nature loving forefathers. Truly living by the words "Giving back to nature, after it's given us so much”.

In 1903 Adolphous Busch's son, August Anhauser Busch Sr., acquired "Grant's Farm". He originally used the 700 acre farm as a place for him and his buddies to get away from the busy city of St. Louis to go hunting and fishing. The estate was named after a previous owner and resident of the property, the 18th President Ulysses S. Grant. The farm still remains in the family and open to the public, as the rich history is welcomed to be shared with generations to come.

Thanks to the efforts of the next generation of Busch's, Billy Sr. and his family have been responsible for the upkeep and restoration of Grant's Farm throughout the years. Having restored the natural wetlands and habitats on the property, this paved the way for establishing a breeding program for endangered species, such as the American Bison and other exotic animals.

The women of the Busch family have played their own important role in conservation. In 1947, after August's passing, his wife Alice Busch donated a nearly seven thousand acre property in St. Charles County, Missouri to be protected as a conservation area in memory of August, dubbed Busch Wildlife. The property boasts thousands of acres of forests and wetlands with lakes and ponds for hiking, biking, fishing and hunting.

Another matriarch of the family, Crysti Busch (Billy Jr.'s mother), is an active conservationist and animal lover herself. Most notably is her role with the Endangered Wolf Center in Missouri, where the center has expanded breeding and protections for the majestic creatures. She is also known for her extensive work training monkeys and also caring for numerous animals on the family farm.

By sharing just a fraction of the family's dedication to nature, we at Geist aim to highlight the testament of the Busch family's dedication to conservation and environmental stewardship, protecting natural resources for future generations.
